A major airport is shut in the Burkina Faso capital Ouagadougou as soldiers lock down an area around the barracks of an elite unit involved in a short-lived coup after they refused to disarm.
An unnamed senior official told AFP news agency said on Tuesday that Ouagadougou's international flights were cancelled as army surrounded the camp of Presidential Security Regiment (RSP) responsible for the September 17 coup.
The source added that the airport would remain shut until further notice.
In a statement, army chief of staff General Pingrenoma urged the population to avoid the Ouaga 2000 district where the camp is located for security reasons.
Interim president Michel Kafando and Prime Minister Yacouba Isaac Zida were arrested by the elite presidential guard on September 16. General Gilbert Diendere was quick to take power, but he resigned a week later under pressure from the West African regional bloc, Burkina Faso’s military and protesting citizens.

Don Jazzy: Loved By Many, Imitated By Some, Endorsed By Brands

Don Jazzy has built his reputation so well everything he touches nearly becomes gold. There are a number of factors that have contributed to his overall acclaim till date.

Producer/ label executive Don Jazzy
In the dynamic age of media dominance on perception, celebrity image and street appeal the Mavins honcho has leveraged the powers of the internet and social media and is creaming off duly.
Armed with killer music instincts that have seen him come tops in at least two major music phases in the Nigerian entertainment industry, it is no wonder Jazzy is the guy everyone wants a signature from today.
READ ALSO:
Let’s digress a bit to 2004; when the music industry was fledgling and we witnessed the emergence of Don Jazzy and erstwhile partner Dbanj fresh from London. There was not an inch of space for any returnees but the pair would go on to form a movement that remains iconic in the nation’s history.
The duo sang and performed around the world under the defunct Mo’ Hits imprint, driving hundreds of thousands to euphoria and animation whenever they came on stage with the tingly Tongolo, the impressive Mr Endowed, not to forget the evergreen Fall In Love, amongst other hits.
In between, the music mavin birthed other names in Wande Coal, SID, Tiwa Savage and D’Prince, erasing suspicions of being a flash in the pan.
The lustrous Oliver Twist comes to mind as one writes this but because the song peaked around 2012, a period characterized by the Mo’Hits split; it isn’t so easy sipping the juicy Afro Pop hit in this discourse as it leaves in its wake bitter-sweet memories.
Oliver Twist went on to become a world smash record, but we barely saw the duo of Dbanj and Don Jazzy render it on any stage in those hyperactive, charmingly entertaining displays because things had fallen apart.

Today, we have Korede Bello, Di’ja and Reekado Banks walking into the party which already has a lethal Tiwa-SID-D’Prince combination helping the collective Mavins Records buzz go ‘off the hinges’ as they say in street parlance.
The beat maker remains a subject of analyses today in our flickering entertainment industry. He understands the showmanship as well as the business aspects of music which is why he is what he is today.
From multiplatinum hit songs to a shiny public image, we have seen him ink a deal or two with some of the finest corporate brands around.
It is all to easy for the man these days, so when Johnnie Walker recently unveiled him as ambassador in a new campaign, it doesn’t come as anything surprising.
He is a man of many flaws but he will be remembered for his music, adaptability as well as an astute business sense.
At present, he is breeding a whole new team and hopes are high, with expectations that they eclipse the antecedents.
Adenike Adebola, a marketing executive at Johnnie Walker, explained his innovation and passion as reasons behind selecting him to represent the liquor brand.
She said: Don Jazzy has experienced different phases of success in his career up till now. He is a true achiever, a game changer and a model to emulate. He is passionate about what he does and it is that passion we celebrate. We believe he will be instrumental in propagating the message and inspiring the rest of Nigeria with our core message that  ‘Joy Will Take You Further.’”
Johnnie Walker is a Scotch whisky made by Diageo. The brand is widely distributed in the world, with an estimated over-300 million bottles bought yearly.

Counter-Terrorism: Army Clarifies Statement On Borno Elders

The Nigeria Army has given clarification on its earlier statement where certain group and influential persons were said to be working against the interest of the force in flushing the remnants of Boko Haram sects from the northeast, especially from Borno state.
The army in a statement on Monday, September 28, said its warning to saboteurs in the northeast was not referring to the Borno Elders of Thought, which is a soci0-political group.
Acting director army public relations Col. Sani Usman,  said the warning was quoted out of proportion by some section of the media.
He added that though no names were mentioned but the army still stands by its statement that certain interest groups who have benefited immensely from the crisis in the North-East are working to frustrate the army effort which is in conformity with President Muhammadu Buhari’s directive to end insurgency in three months.

CLARIFICATION ON THE PRESS RELEASE SENT YESTERDAY TITLED “WARNING TO MISCHIEF MAKERS BENT IN PERPETUATING TERRORSIM
“The attention of the Nigerian Army has been drawn to observations and concerns by well meaning Nigerians especially the Borno Elders Leaders of Thought (BELT) about the misinterpretations of the warning.
“Therefore, it becomes necessary to clarify to the effect that the statement released yesterday does not refer to the leaders of BELT or majority of the good people and law abiding prominent citizens of Borno State. I neither mention any organization’s or individual’s name. However, the warning was to inform a specific group of people whose activities are imminical to our collective quest for peace as enumerated in the release.
“At this point, it is important to observe that what is required at this crucial period is for everyone to rally round the Federal Government to bring to a speedy end the wanton destruction of lives and properties by the Boko Haram insurgency.
“We believe that the Borno Elders and Leaders of Thought cannot hold any clandestine meetings and therefore as a responsible organisation the Nigerian Army holds them in high esteem.

“We however wish to reiterate unequivocally that the Nigerian Army has credible information that certain individuals and groups are losing out of the successes being achieved and therefore want to discredit the renewed fight against Boko Haram. We would not tolerate nor allow them to actualize their nefarious intents.

The Nigerian permanent mission to the United Nations lead by Ambassador Joy Ogwu, has purportedly messed up the formal schedule of President Muhammadu Buhari in New York.
Buhari Was Embarrassed In New York
President Buhari at the 70th general Assembly of the United Nations
The Cable reports that mismanaging resulted in several missed opportunities and uncomfortable moments for Buhari and his official team.
Naij.com has reported earlier that the president missed a very important session on Boko Haram insurgency.
He was also stopped from meeting with Pope Francis because he was not correctly briefed by the Nigerian UN mission personnel.
The pope delivered a speech at the general assembly on Friday, September 25.

Not only was Nigerian leader made to come in late to the event because of messy preparations, he also took a wrong gate rather than the one kept for presidents and heads of state.
Buhari was then stopped from seeing the pope by security staff because of his late coming.
The president came in while other heads of state and government had already lined up to shake hands with the pope, and he was stopped by security operatives from joining in.‎
The presidency had sought to clarify the missed meeting as not being part of the official meeting scheduled for Buhari.
The meeting at which Nigeria was reportedly absent was not one of the official events of the United Nations for which President Muhammadu Buhari and his modest delegation are in New York,” Garba Shehu, a presidential spokesman, had said.
The focus was also on the Lake Chad Basin and the effects of the terrorism to which Nigeria’s full contribution was awaited.
The listed UN meetings had the item: “The Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) will hold a side event on food security and humanitarian consequences of conflicts-driven displacement in the Lake Chad Basin region.”
READ ALSO:
It was arranged for 3pm US time (8pm Nigerian time), but Buhari’s programme organised by the Nigerian mission did not point it out as one of the meetings he should attend.
‎Witnesses to both events defined as “embarrassing and unacceptable” the attitude of the Nigerian mission team which led to media backlash back home and on the social media.
The witnesses also accused the presidential media team of rushing to the press to defend ‎Buhari’s nonappearance at a very vital meeting whose talk was on a matter in which Nigeria has been worst hit by the activities of the terrorists.
However, the event the Nigerian president ultimately attended in place of the one on the insurgency was not only poorly attended but was full of protocol breeches, as Buhari was already seated before other speakers commenced strolling in.

Mecca Stampede Survivor Narrates His Ordeal

Mecca Stampede Survivor Narrates His Ordeal

Clement Ejiofor 1 minute ago 3
One of survivors of a horrible tragedy that happened at Muna Camp, a few kilometres away from the holy city of Makkah in Saudi Arabia, has narrated his shocking experience.
Magaji Falalu Zarewa
Speaking with the Nation, Magaji Falalu Zarewa, a pilgrim from Kano state, said that he saw how helpless pilgrims died but could not do anything as he was struggling for his own life.
“I stepped on dead bodies to escape to a safer place to stay and recover. Lifeless bodies of pilgrims became steps to escape routes,” he said.
Zarewa, who is asthmatic, revealed that he miraculously escaped death during Mecca stampede, adding that his Ventolin Inhaler saved him from death.
Zarewa, who is a student of the Islamic University of Madina, Saudi Arabia, said he has been performing Hajj annually for the last 10 years.
READ ALSO:
How The Incident Started
“The incident occurred around few minutes after 9:00am local time. The problem started when a large crowd of people who had already stoned the Jamrat (devil) were returning through the route of people going towards the Jamarat from Muzdalifa. That caused obstruction of movement and generated heat. People started collapsing. That is the first cause of people’s death. There was no water around the area.
Major Cause Of Death
“Then, the major problem and what I call the major cause of death is nations whose tents are close to the scene of the stampede. Countries like Algeria and Morocco locked access roads to their tents. Because, when the heat was becoming unbearable, people wanted to enter the nearby camps to decongest the main road, get air and water to drink.
READ ALSO:
“So, people started climbing the tents. I also got a strategic pillar of the tent and climbed, then I started breathing better until people began to shake the tent and it finally collapsed on many of us. I didn’t know how I came out of the tent because people were still climbing on us. I just saw myself as people were pouring water on me.
How Zarewa Escaped Death
“When I recovered a little, I quickly grabbed my inhaler, because I am asthmatic and used it. Because I was still gasping for air. Then, the white tent was covered with blood and I watched helplessly as other pilgrims died.
“After I fully recovered, I saw a heap of dead bodies serving as steps for other people to escape. By then, rescue team had arrived, but they were no longer concerned about the dead bodies, they were only picking people with tendencies to survive.
Soldiers Were Helpless
“Then, I was telling the soldiers who were also trying to control the crowd that, the best they can do is to find a way of stopping pilgrims who have already performed the stoning of the devil from returning through the same route used by people who are going to the Jamrat. They told me, because I speak Arabic, that they were helpless.
READ ALSO:
“I told them can’t you people security agents, enter the camps of the nations around here and force them to open their gate, so that you can divert people to pass through their tents? And that was what they eventually did and people started entering. At that point, whether you like it or not, you must step on corpses to get out of the crowd.
Holding Water Was Like Holding Life
“Then, people started to look for water everywhere, if they see you with water, it was like you are holding life. In my presence, someone urinated and poured the urine on his own head just to get refreshed.
“Three Fulani women who followed us because they saw me and my friends as guides died in the stampede. Although I didn’t see their corpses, my friend said he saw one of them crying as people were stepping on her and she died in the process.”
Meanwhile, the government of Sokoto state has announced that in the Mecca stampede.
It would be recalled that in Saudi Arabia.
According to the recent reports, Justice Abdulkadir Jega, the brother of the former chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Attahiru Jega, .

Claire Henderson and baby Brooke
Warning all mums across the world, Doncaster-based Claire Henderson recalled how her little baby, Brooke, was hospitalized for five days with horrific blisters that could have caused liver and brain damage.
‘Please share this with every new mum and pregnant woman you know… COLD SORES CAN BE FATAL FOR A BABY. Before 3 months old a baby cannot fight the herpes virus. If a baby contracts this it can cause liver and brain damage and lead to death. I know this sounds like I am scaremongering but if my friend had not told me about this my baby girl could have been very seriously ill. I noticed the signs early and got her to A&E, we have now been in hospital on a drip for 3 days and have another 2 to go. She was VERY lucky, all her tests came back clear.
READ ALSO:

The moral of the story is DO NOT let anyone kiss your newborns mouth, even if they don’t look like they have a cold sore – 85% of the population carry the virus. And if someone had a cold sore, ask them to stay away until it has gone. Everyone who I have spoken to had not heard this before so I felt it was important to share Brooke’s story and raise awareness to stop anyone else going through what we have this week,” the concerned mum posted on Facebook.

The post has so far garnered over 35,000 shares.
One of Claire’s followers commented: ‘Well said Claire people do need to be aware of this as I didn’t know this could happen to babies. Just so glad you was on the ball & went with your instincts and got our Brooke to hospital straight away.’

The urge to forcefully have carnal knowledge of a married woman has led to a man’s private part being cut off after he met his match in the woman.
The incident happened in a community in Ikono Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, according to a reader who sent the report exclusively to Pulse.
According to the report, the woman identified as Mrs Iniabasi Okon took that drastic step when her husband’s best friend, Linus Ibok , trailed her to the farm on Saturday, September 5, after he had escorted her husband, a petty trader to join a vehicle going to Aba, Abia State, to purchase items for his shop in the village.
“Iniabasi was not surprised when Ibok went to meet her in the farm, thinking he wanted to help her as he was almost like a member of their family but the shock came when Ibok confessed undying love for her but when she told him in plain terms to leave the farm or she would report him to her husband, Ibok decided To Molest her.
But he did not know what the woman had in stock for him as she stealthily used her machete to chop off his randy m*****d.
After that, she ran to the village and inform other villagers who rushed to the farm to meet Ibok in a pool of his blood with his sliced m*****d.
He was rushed to an hospital where he is currently receiving treatment while he will have to face the village elders whenever he is well enough.”

Must Read!! Things You Can Do To Make Money On Campus

Make Money On Campus
WHY DO YOU NEED THESE TIPS ?
As a student, you tend to face so many challenges, ranging from tution fee, hostel fee and other fee.
Let me not even speak about those ones now, because you tend you pay for those ones once in a year But Do you Know that the money you use in Feeding and buying Materials Is even more greater then the amount you spend for school fees and other fees and obviously, they are the ones that tend to consume more cash.
What are these other challenges?
-Feeding
-Photocopying
-Departmental dues
-Hostel Dues
-Faculty dues…. Etc
1. Photography: The Photography business has grown from its state in the days to a renowned profession which people are making a fortune out of. Starting this business in small scale means youre not just making money at the moment but securing a strong financial future for yourself. You know how students especially the female folks love taking pictures, this is the perfect time to make maximum use of this opportunity. you don’t need much to start, just save a little money for a good camera, with a bit of creativity and you’re good to go.
Please note that doing photography professionally requires just more than the previous requirements mentioned but this should be enough to get you started. you can also take passport photographs during school registrations.
2. Sale of Fashion Items: Interesting thing about this business is that you’d succeed no matter your gender. Both male and female wears rocks on Nigerian campuses and who else will succeed more if not their fellow students.
I know of a guy who is living comfortably and paying school fees only by selling men under-wears, yes, Just men under wears, most of the times he travels out to the region where these boxer shorts are at a very low prize, buys them and bring them to his school.
He sells these boxer shorts for virtually everybody in his region ranging from his lecturers down to his fellow students. I don’t want to go into details on how much these things cost, but its best you do your home work.
3. T-Shirt Customization: This business requires your creativity as a student. looking around you, you’ll notice students love fancy and funky stuffs. learning the art of this business means you’ll have fellow students begging you to collect their money for a t-shirt write up.
You can learn this simple business during your stay at home/holiday. You can start in small scale by doing the write ups on your own T-shirt, friends will like it and ask you to even do for them. Just start something. Remember the “My Oga at the Top Saga”? you see those custom t-shirts? Need i say more? – See more at:

Do i also need to tell you the thousands of Naira made during post UTME registrations? All the tools you need to make good money are all around you, you Just need to identify one and work your way through it.
5. Website Design/Hosting: I’ll be a bit biased on this one because that’s what i do currently and don’t know if its suitable for students or not. But i can authoritatively tell you students are taping into the hidden money from this lucrative business.
It may take a while to learn the entire concept of how this things work but its something you can easily do while you are home for holidays. Website Design may sound a bit complex so you might want to manage the little you get from setting up blogs for fellow students.

See The Village In America Where The Yoruba Culture Is Being Practiced (Photos)

Yoruba
Yoruba culture remains the only prominent one outside the shores of this country and it is the only African culture celebrated worldwide till date.
It is a pointer to our unique strength of keeping diplomatic relations. We don’t go about creating enemies, rather we establish long standing diplomatic relations with everybody.

This is Oyotunji village in South Carolina. The community was founded by a black America named Walter Eugene King who was born on October 5, 1928 in Detroit, Michigan, USA.
Eugene went to the Cass Technical High School and got fascinated by the African culture. He also got exposed to the Katherine Dunham Dance Troupe at the age of 20 which increased his love for the African culture, particularly that of the Yorubas.

On August 26, 1959, Eugene became the first African born in America to become fully initiated into the Orisa-Vodun African priesthood by African Cubans in Matanzas, Cuba. This marked the beginning of the spread of Yoruba religion and culture among African Americans.
With a few followers, and after dissolution of the Order of Damballah Hwedo, Eugene founded the Sango Temple in New York and incorporated the African Theological Arch Ministry in 1960. The Sango Temple was relocated and renamed the Yoruba Temple the same year.
