We Did Not Set ‘Snake Pastor’s’ Church Ablaze – EFF
Reports say the EFF has denied razing infamous ‘Snake Pastor’s’ church in Pretoria, South Africa; even as a religious rights group is set to investigate activities at the End Times Ministries.South Africa based News24 has it that the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) is denying any involvements in the recent demolition of Penuel Mnguni’s End Times Disciples Ministries.
Prior to this time, Mnguni’s brand of ‘ministration’ attracted harsh criticisms across and outside the media when it was discovered he was forcing his members to eat rodents, snakes and underwears.
Following this, the EFF stormed his ETDF Ministries in Soshanguve, Pretoria with plans to get him to swallow snakes and rats, exactly as he had made his congregation do.
Mnguni wasn’t at Sunday’s service when the EFF arrived, but the latter went on with razing the church tent regardless.
However, the EFF has come out to say the tent was not burnt down by its members, but rather by Soshanguve locals who had in fact been fed up of Mnguni’s ‘brand of spirituality’.
Speaking to News24, EFF Spokesperson Ntobeng Ntobeng explained that the group led the protest to ETDF but didn’t raze the church.
‘The community said, ‘We are not leaving the tent behind. The tent must go,’ Ntobeng said to News24.
Further complaints from the locals include issues of loud music from his tent at odd hours, his forcing members to eat snakes, jumping on the women in the church, and his strange behavior which they termed ‘demonic and unethical’.
Ntobeng said his group, the EFF, got to the church on Sunday, August, 9 but the pastor was not within sight.
According to the BBC, the EFF said they had stormed Mnguni’s service on Sunday with plans to make him “lead by example” and eat snakes and rats.
In related news, there are plans of a formal investigative study on Mnguni by a religious rights group, News24 reports.
Thoko Mkhwanazi-Xaluva, Chairperson of a Cultural and Religious group in Johannesburg, spoke further on this;
‘We will by next week formally launch an investigative study that aims to unpack this phenomenon and also address all the concerns and complaints about this matter and other related practices,’ he said.
